World Travel

“A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.”
Lao Tzu

“Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.”
Miriam Beard

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.”
Henry Miller

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”
St. Augustine

Surely the previous quotations are familiar to most of the inquiring world travelers, still they are my favorites and relevant to the compassionate world travel that includes a special attitude and appreciation of the world around us.

I am one of those people who has a map plastered to the wall of the entrance hall to their house. On this map I stick a pin every time I've been to somewhere new. My map looks like an echidna or a hedgehog and I have a habit of standing in front of the map and planning my next trip. I want to fill the gaps between the pins. For me this is great entertainment.

Lately, though, I have become more and more selective about where I want to travel to and what I want to see once I get to my destination. I want to express compassion in action in everything I do. In the world that is filled with wonderful places to visit, I need a valid criteria for spending my time and my money.

I get very excited when talking about social media. My friends are everywhere. It is amazing how easy it is to keep up with your childhood friends today. Since joining the Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest and the Skype, my life has been rich with connecting and engaging with professional and personal friends and family all around the world. Being in contact electronically has inspired me to travel more, to meet with the friends and the family face to face.

That in turn gives more opportunities in exploring the compassion in action in travel. My Compassionate World Traveler blog
is inspired by my search for simple destinations that are a little outside the box. Please, enjoy and feel free to comment.
